Why You Should Do Photography as a Female in Cotonou 2022.

It is Fair to say Photography is part of the things that have changed the world today.  Its impact in the Creatives Art Industries has shaped the World in its own way.  This vast, improving and ever growing industry has created a strong niche in the creative industry, raised a lot of creatives whose works have impact on the world today, created amazing job opportunities, raised great Artistic creators and simplified photographic technology.

Today a Digital Photographer can bring to life digitally the works of great Portrait painters like Leonard Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Vincent van gogh and so on, producing digitally same kind of works they spent loads of months creating in a couple of days, using even more simplified tools for easy and effective production.  I recently saw a  digital portrait of the Monalisa on social media, which was created digitally using a different twist and giving almost the same expression as you would get when you look at the real Monalisa painting. I even saw a Black Monalisa too, the idea was Amazing.  Research says Da Vinci worked on the Monalisa for 4 years, but that digital creator created the Monalisa in the studio within a couple of Hours.

We can also see the impact of Photography on the very vast growing niche of Content Creators and Marketing.  Photography birthed this niche, and it is improving the lives of a lot of people today. 

 Although it is estimated globally that professional Women Photographers who actually have photography as a career are about 13-15%.  According to Hundredheroines.org, about 70-80% of Photography graduates are women, only 15% are professional photographers. We cannot mention the icons of photography, without mentioning how much Women Creators have  played a huge role in creating works of Art.  We can say today in the world women have created successful businesses and platforms  from Photography all over the world.  Our World has been blessed with lots of talented Female Photographers such as Sue Bryce, Lindsey Adler, Brooke Shaden, Annie Leibovitz,  Jai Mattew,  Ty Bello, etc are some of the talented women that have shaped the world of photography for Females.

Why You Should Do Photography as a Female in Cotonou 2022.

In Cotonou Benin Republic, there are Very few female Photographers.  You can say there are a considerable number of Social Media influencers and Content Creators who majorly create content using their Mobile Phones, but there are very few women who actually have photography as a career.  The estimated percentage will be about 2% unofficially.  My take on this will be because of the influence it has got, and the way it is looked at.  Also the Country Benin, is still under a verge of Development, so lots of females have not been digitally exposed as to doing photography.  

I have interviewed some people recently, and quite a number of them do not think making money as a photographer in Cotonou is stable, how much more trying to get a good gig as a female Photographer, other people here will say photography is a job meant for men,  it is true all over the World, Men still dominate about 80% in this field.  I say that photography is a job meant for any one who is interested in creating and expressing ideas.

Here are some of the Reasons why I think you should be a Female Photographer in Cotonou Benin Republic in 2022.

Development:  Benin Republic is growing at a great speed at the moment.  In the Last 5 years, development has been very rapid, cost of living has increased by about 3 %, new opportunities are emerging, more brands are evolving, and lots of commercial brands are being created everyday.  This means the need for Creative/commercial Photographers will increase by some percentage in the next couple of years, now will be the best time to get into photography.

Versatility:  since only 15% of women all around the World are professional Photographers, there’s a great chance that figure will change within the next couple of years, that will mean more women are stepping up to own the photography space in their region.  You could be one of them.

Creativity: Creative Photography, Wedding Photography, Commercial Photography, beauty photography, documentary photography are some of the world’s leading photography niches which are forever going to be in development, you can make your mark in any of these niches with whatever idea you have.

Opportunities:  I often hear some people in Cotonou say, “for some reason, I prefer a Female photographer to a Male Photographer because they tend to be more patient and understanding towards the job offered”.  This means there can be more opportunities for female photographers to explore in the future.

Business:  Been a Female Photographer, is one of the flexible businesses you can have as a female.  Whether you are Mom, or a single lady looking to go into a business.  You can be a photographer on the weekends, and still work a 9-5 job, you create contents for influencers, small brands, shoot weddings, etc.

Influence: The influence of being a Female Photographer in Cotonou can attract More  attention to the photography Industry hence creating more Work Opportunities.

Community:  women Photographers tend to have exquisite creativity when they get into Photography, I think creating a community of female photographers is essential in Cotonou.
