So you have just booked your next photo session, and you are shy and pretty confused because you think you are not so much a friend of the camera. Well thank Heavens that you stumbled upon this Article because after the tips listed right here, (from a professional photographer and creative director) all your photo sessions will be a notable amazing experience. Winks! 

Tip #1

Develop your Confidence: from my experience photographing people all these years, the one thing I have noticed is that clients give out their best look, when they are confident and sure about what they are doing. How do you develop this confidence? Start by accepting yourself, your facial features, your body, your charisma, your figures, etc.  No you may not look like Kim, but you are a better version of yourself hence everything about you is perfect, and you are amazing just the way you are.  Going to your photo session with this thought helps you feel great when you sit in front of that camera to be shot. Wear your Confidence.

Tip #2

Stay Comfortable: another great way to look and feel great in front of that camera, is to feel and stay comfortable.  Whether you are styled by a professional stylist or styled by yourself, make sure you are styled in a way that resonates with who you are and what you love.  From your hair, makeup, outfit, shoes, location, etc. let every detail speak of who you are and what you love.  Hence make sure to discuss with the photographer and the rest of the team prior to the shoot date to discuss these, and be sure of what to expect.

Tip #3

Music Helps: I cannot overemphasize how much music is important in any photo session, it literally uplifts the spirit of everyone on set while working.  One thing you can do is to make a playlist of your favorite songs before your shoot appointment, and send it to your photographer.  This will help you feel more relaxed  and get you in the mood during the shoot. The outcome is always amazing.

Tip #4

Mirror yourself: spend some time looking at yourself in the mirror before you stand in front of the camera, do some poses, a little swirl here and there, breath in and out, practise some smiling and facial expression exercises.  When you make an awkward face, do not criticize yourself for it, tell yourself this instead “it’s just one of my unique expressions” or “it’s just one of my unique styles”, after a few moments in front of the mirror you’ll get acquainted .

Tip #5

Pose Freely: your photographer will be sure to pose you during the course of the shoot.  Meanwhile you can pose freely from time to time by moving your body in different directions, moving your hands, your face from side to side and forward, creating expressions with your eyes and so forth.  This exercise will help you do well, the professional poses as well as give you some poses that you will naturally display. See! You’ll do just great.

Tip #6

Trust your Photographer: he/she is the professional, and knows just what to do, at least you should verify that before booking him or her ( see my post “9 things to do before booking a photo session in Cotonou). Allow them to do their job by showing them a great amount of trust.
